Away With The Fairies

Imagine a time, when it all began;
A fresh choice of poisons we purvey,
Punks and droogs emerge from shadowed alleyway;
Criminals, players, hussies, innocents and football fan.
Drinking their way through boredom and pain,
Then stumbling out the door, fading into the rain.

When the weight of the world has got them down
And they want to end their life;
Bills to pay, a dead-end job and problems with the wife,
But don't throw in the towel,
As there's a place right down the block
Where they can drink their misery away.
Liqueur in a mug, warms one like a hug.

We don't point our finger,
Please understand,
Most of the time, they walk a straight line
The best that they can, but they all love
A cold beer in a tall frosty glass,
So later tonight, when we look up and find
They're all drunk off their ass.

Friendly fists on another Friday night
Over the long-legged blonde in the pale neon light,
Until someone pulls a knife.
Beaten and babbling, he fell on his neck with a scream
A hole in his heart, hell of a show, liquid draining out dry.
End of this life.

Last orders.
The boards go up, the bell has rung
Memories chipped and burdens nutted;
The ol' fat Queen has sung.
God didn't save this Queen.
