Waiting For The Big One

I lie awake
Staring out at the blooming grey skies
A 'homely' beauty of which I receive
No longer; all is reduced to bleakness
Ever since the blackout
And the fragile flame it had left me.

My mind built on a foundation of sounds and colours
Seen and heard. Built on a lifetime of love and loss felt
Deeply. Like an eggshell it shattered when struck,
And the pieces welled up and flaked away in the gutter.
Back to the sea and swallowed up by the world.
Drowned and forgotten.

The wife consoles me. Who is she?
Why does she stay for this new man;
A patchwork of faded memories and artificial components
Since the healer was let loose.
Who is this man who claims to be my son?
The warmth of intimacy burns bright,
But remembering is so hard.

I pray to He nestled above the cold clouds,
Who cured the blind and moved the stone;
Sharing the sentiment of my parents;
A black and white image on the mantle.
I pray that I won't fall beneath the water,
That I will not dream an eternal dream,
Or go before capturing that one moment;
While I'm waiting for the big one.

The birds will still sing, the wind will still blow,
But my time will stand still
And the whole room will shake as the sea will take
What land it left before.
Why is the moon so lonely?
Why does the night terror me so?
It is your unconditional love for this disjointed soul
That nurtures him on the healing road
And shelters his delicate flame.
